HQ: Wigan, England NOW PLAYING: StayFeelRegret EP (myspace.com/smudge) THE STORY SO FAR: The number of bands Blink-182 have indirectly inspired to form has gotta be in the gazillions. But they're directly responsible for British quintet Smudge. "[Guitarist Dan Fisher and I] started to take [the band] a lot more seriously after meeting Blink backstage at a concert," says vocalist Jack Valentine. They grew the lineup and mercilessly trekked their homeland draw fans wherever they could. Promoters noticed and handed them opening spots for the Secret Handshake and Zebrahead before Smudge won an opening spot on last winter's Rockstar Taste Of Chaos International. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Each member brings vastly different sonic influences-from hardcore to indie, rap to dance-that give Smudge a very distinct musical flavor. And, honestly, if you don't get to know 'em, Valentine says they won't stop anytime soon.
