NOW PLAYING: The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza (CORROSIVE; corrosiverecordings.com) THE STORY SO FAR: Okay, so they weren't exactly formed in the swamps of the deep South, but it sure sounds better that way. Whatever the case, when four-fifths of the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza relocated from Monroe, Louisiana, to Tennessee two years ago, something sinister happened-namely, vocalist Jessie Freeland joined the group, and the quintet started constructing their tech-grind powerhouse around him. One self-released demo (with 10-star reviews to match) and an official debut album later, they've also earned a reputation as one of underground metal's fiercest live acts. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: There aren't nearly enough bands with 12-syllable names in any genre, let alone grindcore-but more importantly, as the band tell AP via e-mail, you should worship TTDTE "'Cuz we can drop it like it's hot and make some suckas lean back." Whatever, dudes-when you can lob around dizzyingly technical riffs at 300 bpm and have a frontman whose vocals shred the cookie-cutter Cookie Monster stereotype, we'll allow you an inside joke at our expense. Okay, two: We still don't get what's up with the band name... -Aaron Burgess YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: Ed Gein / Ion Dissonance / Kill The Client |
