CRIME IN STEREO TO RELEASE SPLIT WITH THE BACKUP PLAN

Posted by Brian Shultz on 21-Oct-08 @ 12:52 PM

Long Island melodic hardcore acts Crime In Stereo and the Backup Plan will be releasing a split 7" next year on State of Mind Recordings.

For those unaware, the Backup Plan broke up in 2005 after releasing several EPs and full-lengths over the course of their five-year run or so. Their contribution to the split will reportedly be the last four songs they recorded in a basement shortly after the release of 2003's Dearest Whomever... (New Day Rising). One of the songs is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.

Crime In Stereo recently released the Selective Wreckage collection on Bridge Nine and Is Dead in 2007. They're currently on tour with Polar Bear Club and Broadway Calls.

Crime In Stereo also have some other things planned for 2009, which you'll learn about tomorrow if you're so inclined.

REEL BIG FISH TO RELEASE COVERS ALBUM; WORLD TOUR WITH STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO

Posted by Brian Shultz on 20-Oct-08 @ 10:29 PM

Remember the other day when we reported that ska-punk veterans Reel Big Fish had announced a new album for release in January 2009? Turns out that album will be composed entirely of covers.

Titled Fame, Fortune And Fornication and produced by frontman Aaron Barrett, the 10-track disc will be released by Rock Ridge Music on January 20, 2009, featuring the band's versions of songs by acts like Tom Petty, the Eagles, Poison (twice) and even Edna's Goldfish (future members of the Reunion Show and Action Action) among others.

The band will support the release on a world tour with Streetlight Manifesto and One Pin Short, which will kick off on New Year's Day.

It won't be the first time RBF and Streetlight have toured together, as they hit the road last summer with Less Than Jake and Against All Authority.

Covers aren't unfamiliar terrain for Reel Big Fish, either: The band covered Frank Sinatra and Lita Ford on 2002's Cheer Up! and Operation Ivy on 1997's Keep Your Receipt, as well as their well-known versions of a-ha's "Take On Me" and current live staple, Metallica's "Enter Sandman."

Rock Ridge also released the band's last studio album, 2007's DVD-accompanied Monkeys For Nothin' And The Chimps For Free.

Fame, Fortune And Fornication track listing:
1. Nothing But A Good Time (Poison)
2. Mama We're All Crazy Now (Slade)
3. Veronica Sawyer (Edna's Goldfish)
4. Authority Song (John Mellencamp)
5. Brown Eyed Girl (Van Morrison)
6. The Long Run (The Eagles)
7. Won't Back Down (Tom Petty)
8. Keep A Cool Head (Desmond Dekker)
9. Monkey Man (Toots And The Maytals)
10. Talk Dirty To Me (Poison)
