Alkaline Trio discuss creation of Heart & Skull imprint

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 11/19/09 @ 5:55 PM - altpress.com

Yesterday, we brought you news of Alkaline Trio signing with Epitaph Records. The band have formed their own Heart & Skull label, as well, and will be co-releasing the new record.

"We made the decision to form Heart & Skull to put out our own records after having been through every kind of label deal in the industry, big indies, small indies, majors," explains guitarist/vocalist Matt Skiba. "We knew it was time to adapt to the shifting tides of the music industry and we could not be more thrilled about doing that in conjunction with the team at Epitaph. Taking control of our own label situation was something we always wanted to do but never thought was possible, but now thanks to Brett Gurewitz and the fine folks at Epitaph, it is. All three of us in Alkaline Trio have always had the utmost respect for the music and the work ethic of the Epitaph, Anti- and Hellcat family and now we're honored to be working together under one big happy roof. Heart & Skull/Epitaph is truly a dream come true for us."

"For our band at this time it really makes sense to release our own records, but we wanted to make sure we could partner up with good people who we would want to share in something very special to us," continues bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano. "When Brett called and said he wanted to be involved, that was it. Epitaph is a label I've admired and supported for more than half of my life! I couldn't be more excited for how this is turning out!"

Alkaline Trio have been on a number of labels in their decade-plus existence, starting off on local Chicago label Johann's Face for a single before moving to Asian Man Records for what many fans consider to be their classic albums. The group signed with Vagrant in 2000 and released three proper full-lengths and a rarities compilation with the label, before signing to V2 in 2006. When V2 shut its doors in 2007, the band were snatched up by Epic Records, but that partnership quickly soured after only one album, 2008's Agony & Irony.

The Starting Line to reunite for Philadelphia show this December

Alternative Press - Scott Heisel on 11/19/09 @ 12:55 PM - altpress.com

Well, the rumors were true, at least for one night: The Starting Line will reassemble for a single show on Dec. 29 at the TLA in Philadelphia. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday, Nov. 21 at noon EST here.

"We all got together for the Somebody's Gonna Miss Us release party last week and decided it would be fun to play a hometown holiday show this year," explains guitarist Matt Watts. "Just to clarify, this doesn't mean TSL are back together and are going to make a record. It simply means that we're taking a break from our break, and wanted to play a fun show in Philadelphia and continue to focus on our lives outside of TSL."

The pop-punk quartet released three full-lengths and originally broke up in 2008. In TSL-related news, frontman Ken Vasoli's new band, Person L, released their sophomore album, The Positives, earlier this week.

Thrice lose guitarist for several shows, possibly entire tour

Alternative Press - Tim Karan on 11/19/09 @ 11:25 AM - altpress.com

Thrice have announced that guitarist/keyboardist Teppei Teranishi has had to leave the band during their current tour due to a family emergency. Teranishi will miss the band's next few shows and possibly the remainder of Thrice's headlining tour with the Dear Hunter.

A message from the band on their website reads: "Teppei had to leave the tour last night due to a family emergency, and will not be playing with us for the next few shows (and possibly the rest of the tour.) We fully understand and support his decision to do so, and hope that you'll be understanding as well. He started this tour knowing that this would be a possibility, and toughed it out for as long as he possibly could. Please send as many positive thoughts as you can muster in his, and his family's direction."

Guest guitarists will be filling in for Teranishi and the band say the tour will continue as planned.
