[2/5]Featuring ex-members of Solid State outfits Embodyment and Demon Hunter, the Famine unfortunately proves their label has fallen into a rut. While Solid State certainly continues to field an impressive roster of metalcore pioneers, many of their new signings demonstrate less evolution than successive iterations of EA Sports' Madden video game series. The Famine deliver half an hour of aggression that's equal parts blood-pumping and pedestrian. Fans of the genre will be beyond pleased with the amount of breakdowns and double-bass, but those unfamiliar with this cluster of artists will have a near-impossible time distinguishing this group from the Agony Scene, Demon Hunter, Advent or a host of others. The effort and technical skill of the Famine are to be applauded, but for an offering from a group with an impressive pedigree, The Raven And The Reaping just feels like more sand was chucked on the beach. WOW. I've read a lot of AP reviews over the years, and I have to say that this is the worst one I've read in a while...maybe ever. It seems that Kevin Wade made up his mind before listening to this album, and after seeing that The Famine includes ex-members of Embodyment and Demon Hunter. This is basically The Famine's follow up to their (Embodyment's) 1998 release "Embrace The Eternal", and "The Raven And The Reaping" couldn't have been a better follow up. Oh wait, I forgot that they sound just like Demon Hunter.
